iPhone 3G SOLD with the HELP of Twitter

12 Jul 2009 / 5 Comments / in Apple News/by Robert Hawkes

As you probally know I recently upgraded to the iPhone 3GS. And I was in two minds if I was going to sell my iPhone 3G or not. I played around with the idea spoke to a few people even got decent offers. But something was stopping me. My “sickness” my inability to let go of any thing Apple.

I sold my black MacBook last year to help purchase the Alu MacBook so I found that easy enough to part with but this time round I didn’t really need to sell the iPhone 3G to buy the iPhone 3GS. What made matter worse a good contact on Twitter helped me Jailbreak the 3G and I was having some really good fun with it messing with the Free Apps such as the GPS Sat Nav which was very cool & may I say it again FREE. To cut a long story short I started to realise that I was been very childish hanging onto the 3G when was really never going to use it and It was time to put the it up for Sale for real this time round.

After a previous sale feel through I was going to be serious about selling this time. So in comes Twiiter I have about 500 or so Irish Followers so I felt if anyone could help they would and boy did they. In a matter of hours of putting the Tweet out and a few Re-Tweets from my Followers I found a really decent guy up the country to Buy the iPhone. PayPal money transfered and phone been dropped to the couriers tomorrow and will be at it’s new home by Tuesday. Moral of the Story …. If you use Twitter right it will help you do pretty much anything :-)

Well now that i have two iPhones i decide to step over to the dark side for a while. I set about jail-breaking my iPhone 3G to see what all the fuss is about…

I Set about by using this site http://blog.iphone-dev.org/page/2 and followed everything to the letter of the law.. And it worked and i got to see how cool qik is and stuff but when i went to use another SIMs 02 & Meteor … guess what .. FAIL.. cant make or receive calls. So what’s the use of that ??? So have restored it back to its legal self for the time being anyway..

From the short time i have the phone JailBroken i must say its very cool.. I think i will wait to see if the DEV team improve the software before i try it again.

If your an Apple geek like myself and your looking for a different type of ring-tone for your iPhone i found a great site on the Web where this guy  decided to recreate the theme tune to the Apple Get a Mac TV ad campaign. He used GarageBand and its very impressive to be fair to him so if your interested here is the link check it out and download away  Music for Apple’s “Get a Mac” Ad Campaign

Yet Another Clean Install/Restore iPhone OS

I don’t know what it is with the Beta of iPhone OS3.0 but when you install the software you need to set up the device as a brand new iPhone. If you dont “well what has happened to me” you get a bitchy Version of the OS that wont work that way it should &&&& youtube & Maps wont work…. so here i am doing yet another install as i cant live with the latest beta …. how can 3.0 beta be as poor as 1.0 Beta makes no sense at all……..

Please note as well when i did my update to 3.o last week i did a fresh install as well…. i’m just giving this a go to see if it makes a difference…

GPS on iPhone

Really got to use this feature this weekend. We spent the weekend in Castlegregory in Co Kerry. Before we left Cork i planned in the Route. Only really started to use it once i left Tralee. Its really does work well but i did nearly crash the car messing with it along the way. So the sooner Apple or some other provider comes up with a talking directions APP the better before someone really does get hurt using it in the car.

Faulty iPhone? “No Sim” ( Apple’s Response )

Well Mrs Hawkes has been having some issues with her iPhone 3G for the past few weeks. So i decided to step in and try and resolve. First thing first check all my Fav sites and Google to see if the issue ” No Sim” was happening to other iPhone users. I had no real joy there so next step was to ring 02 ……… only joking u know i would’nt waste my valuable time doing something that stupid :-) so rang apple support direct. First time i have even had to do this in all my time owning as many Apple Products as i do. Anyway spoke to support and explained the problem and went through the steps ie what they do with every Joe when they ring rather than waste their time and mine i said ” look i kind of know what im doing as i am very familar with Apple etc so what is the process. So here it it incase it happens to you.

  1. Ring Apple Support 1800 92 38 98
  2. Give them your Serial Number
  3. They will tell you to do a full restore and set up phone as new device (make sure u back up everything ! ! ) and wait to see ……… ps make sure you get Apple Case Number U WILL NEED THIS later
  4. If that does’nt sort you need to get replacement SIM from 02. Not a big deal at all well unless u have to Q :-(
  5. Step after that ” which to be fair we have’nt got to touch wood is to ring apple back with case number and tell them u have done everything bl bla bla and they will then swap out phone.
Experience so Far ! Positive cant complain now understand why Apple is voted best in the world for PC aftercare.
Will keep u in the loop if we need to go to step 5

Well ……………. no surprises really if you follow Kevin Rose like i do or MacRumors like i do Kevin in particular got alot if not everything right, even Steve Jobs mentioned in the Keynote that he was a “bit” annoyed about the likes of iPod accessory makers releasing products even before Apple Release the new Line.

Am i going to be buying anthing that was relasesd ? Nothing is sticking out and shouting ” buy me buy me ” so i think i will be hanging onto my apple fund for a small while yet. I do like the new Touch but i just sold my 32GB touch which i bought in the apple store in NYC when i got the iPhone 3G so why buy one now that has only changed a small bit. Like the speaker like the new face but nothing thats saying ” you must have me “

I do like what they have done with the Nano i think its one step back two steps forward with product and i commend Apple for having the balls to say look ” we made a mistake on the last one lets listen to the fans and give them back what was working just better ” Great new features i particular like the ” shake to shuffle” but i can see iPods flying across rooms like what happened with the Wii :-)

iTunes 8 is brill i have only being playing it for a day now but i love it aleady, again “the Irish” are being left behind again with no movies and tv shows but fingers crossed that will happen soon. Obviously i cant wait for Friday and the iPhone update. no mention of copy and paste in the Keynote but i dont know i have a feeling it might be in there its just the way Jobs said and more ” features” without going into details, either way we will get improvement in the line of bug fixes and aparently the battery life will improve. Once installed i will do a post on same hopefully over the weekend.

I have the iPhone 3G now nearly two month’s and im just about to go onto my 4th Cover/Case. Why so many cases? Well I waited long enough for my iPhone and like with all my beloved Apple products I want to keep them in tip top condition, not alone cause I cant stand when phone’s and anything else gets damaged but as I am a keen follower of Apple I know only too well that a NEW iPhone is only a matter of Mth’s away and I will need to sell my current model on eBay to be able to purchase the new one.

The newest one to be added to my collection is SwitchEasy CapsuleRebel “Artic” I already have the Black one which is very cool but i bought this one now as well cause its clear and u can see the Apple Logo through the back. I will let u know how i get on with it on another Blog and maybe more Pics.

Best place to pick this up is @ appleprostore ordered it last week so only took 5 working days to get to me and with the dollar @ the moment got it delivered and all for €21.00 you can go wrong with that. Check it out anyway i highly recommend it to all iPhone 3G users and you also get some excellent accessories with it as well. GREAT VALUE.
